In France , as in Italy, viticulture has very ancient roots. The most famous wine areas are: Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône Valley for red wines such as Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon or Bordeaux rouge ; Burgundy, the Loire Valley and Alsace for white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc , Muscadet and Colombard Sauvignon ; Champagne for sparkling wines.
