Montepulciano (not to be confused with Nobile di Montepulciano which is Tuscan) is a black grape variety grown mainly in the Marche , Molise and Abruzzo regions . In the Marche it occupies the first place among the black grape varieties, together with Sangiovese. Almost twin vines that complement each other well and together play leading roles in different appellations.
In fact, many Marche wines are obtained from a blend of the two vines, the majority presence of one or the other determines the style of the wine: more Montepulciano for powerful wines, more Sangiovese for sweet and fruity wines.
