Chardonnay is a white grape variety from Burgundy. It is produced far beyond its region of origin and enjoys worldwide fame. In fact, together with Pinot noir, Pinot Meunier and other minor grape varieties, it is one of the grape varieties allowed for the production of Champagne , but also the best sparkling wines in the world, including the Italian Trentodoc and Franciacorta .
Chardonnay, characteristics
Its golden grape produces fresh, delicate, fruity white wines with a high alcohol content, both still and sparkling. Furthermore, Chardonnay lends itself particularly well to aging in barriques and aging (unlike many other whites).
Where Chardonnay is produced in Italy
Chardonnay , thanks to its ability to adapt to very different climates and soils, is one of the most cultivated vines in the world. In Italy it is bred in all regions.
What to pair with Chardonnay
In its most basic versions it is ideal for an aperitif , but if it is aged in barrels the best combination is with cheeses , preferably aged. In the case of Blanc de Blanc, that is a bubble exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, it would be perfect with fish and shellfish .
